Yes, I’ve jumped on the trend train, and I will not apologize! I’ve actually been planning a coffee series to compliment my 21 Days of Tea series, and this was a fun opportunity to provide a prequel.

Just a few simple ingredients are needed for this yummy coffee drink.

Anyway, so my best friend (who doesn’t know she’s my best friend or that I exist) Chetna Makan has been making daily videos on her YouTube channel to help folks #stayhomeandcook, and she introduced me to the dalgona craze. You’ve probably seen this popular Korean coffee sensation on Instagram. Luckily, I had all the ingredients, and it’s likely you do, too. Even better, it only takes five minutes to get your caffeine fix!

Most things are better with chocolate.

While Chetna’s recipe (and every other one I found online) goes for a 1:1:1 ratio of coffee to sugar to water, that ratio is too strong for my tastes, so I’ve cut down the coffee to about a third of the original recipe. If you’re like me and like a little coffee with your creamer, you should enjoy this one without feeling like your heart is about to pop out of your body.

Ingredients

1- 1.5 teaspoons of instant coffee

1 tablespoon of granulated sugar

1 tablespoon of cold water

1 cup of milk (any kind)

Directions

  1. Combine the coffee, water, and sugar and beat until the mixture becomes fluffy and golden brown.
  2. Pour milk over a couple of ice cubes, leaving an inch or two at the top of your glass or mug or jar.
  3. Top with coffee mixture and any additional toppings (such as chocolate or caramel syrup).
  4. Snap a photo and then stir it all together before you enjoy!
