dsc_0338I happened upon a mini gingerbread house cookie cutter the other day, just in time for a speed gingerbread house contest on Christmas Eve. We’ll have video on the Youtube channel soon, but in the meantime, check out our creations:

Hosting your own mini gingerbread making contest is easy–all you need is a cookie cutter, a cookie recipe (I used the one printed on the cookie cutter packaging), royal icing, and any sprinkles, sliced almonds, or candies you have at home. Bake the cookies beforehand, and gather your supplies. Make a batch of royal icing, and divide into zip-lock bags, one for each participant. Royal icing dries fast, so try to make it closer to time, and make sure the bags stay sealed. Once you’re ready to start the contest, cut one corner of each bag.

Come up with house rules, and contest away! We did several rounds: 10-minute time limit, who can finish fastest, who can make the prettiest, etc.

It was just K and me for breakfast the next morning, so we whipped up a breakfast casserole and a salad for brunch, along with eggnog and tea. dsc_0348
